Easing into Exercising

Published by Dr. Alden Clendenin

Daily exercise is extremely important to your health, even if it is a simple half hour walk. For those that lead inactive lifestyles, though, it can be hard to start an exercise program. However, everyone has to start somewhere when it comes to exercising. Though it may seem daunting, there are actually ways to get motivated and get moving! In general, making your routine manageable and a bit customized to what you like will help you get into shape!

Keep It Simple

To start off with, find simple exercises you enjoy doing. Don’t feel like you need to do fitness boot camps or run a 10K right away! Starting with ten to thirty minutes of cardio every other day, which can mean anything from hiking to going on the elliptical; not everyone loves to run! There are some great apps you can download to get exercise ideas if you prefer to get in shape in your own home rather than a gym, which brings us to our next point: using technology!

Technology is Your Friend

Not everyone has a degree in nutrition, so it can be hard to know what is truly healthy, what exercises are best for your body type, etc. Fortunately, many apps are here to help! Spend some time researching the best apps for what you need. This can include something to give you exercise tips, get you motivated, provide a great playlist, help you schedule the time to exercise, and more. The scheduling is a priority; many that lead a hectic lifestyle find it hard to have time to exercise. If you can customize your workout to fit in with your schedule, you are much more likely to do it!

A Workout Buddy

Some prefer to workout alone, while some love to workout with a friend! Workout buddies can provide great motivation, and if you both have similar fitness goals, the better. However, even if you don’t like to workout with a friend, try to schedule activities when you are with your friends over going out for a drink. Walking around Lincoln Park Zoo is much more beneficial to your fitness goals than having a beer and a burger at a neighborhood bar.

By taking the time to make working out a habit, and scheduling activities properly, you’ll be on your way to your fitness goals in no time! For nutritional counseling and holistic treatments, remember to contact Chicago Chiropractic and Sports Injury Centers!
