Easy Food Swaps for a Healthier Lifestyle

Published by Dr. Alden Clendenin

“You are what you eat” is a saying that is tossed around often, but there is a lot of truth behind the statement. Many patients visit our chiropractors in Chicago feeling sluggish, tired and overall unhappy with how they feel. While chiropractic services are beneficial in many aspects of life, eating healthy is one of the most important things that you can do for your body. Think of food as fuel rather than turning to it when you are emotional. Here are some easy swaps that you can make that will have a huge impact on the way that you feel!

Mashed Avocado for Butter

Did you know that butter is 100 percent pure saturated fat and cholesterol? While it may taste good in the moment, it will likely have you feeling sluggish later in the day. Eating butter regularly can greatly increase your risk of developing cardiovascular disease in addition to weight gain. Try swapping regular butter with “nature’s butter,” or mashed avocados. It has virtually no saturated fat and has fiber, vitamins and minerals. Top it with salt and pepper!

Baked Potatoes for Fries

Everyone loves a good french fry, but what about the negative effect they have on your body? While there is a stigma that carbs are directly related to weight gain, this swap shows that this is not true! When you are preparing potatoes, make sure to avoid added oils, cream, butter or cheese. Simply cut potatoes in the shape of your choice and season them with salt, pepper and paprika and throw them in the oven!

Almond Milk for Cow’s Milk

Roughly 65 percent of the world’s population has a reduced ability to digest lactose after infancy. If your stomach often hurts and you can’t pinpoint why, try getting rid of dairy products and swap them out for nut-based milk or yogurt.

If you are still feeling sluggish, please schedule an appointment with our chiropractors in Chicago.
