If you’ve just discovered your love for running, welcome to the club! Running is a great workout that doesn’t require any equipment besides your favorite pair of running shoes. While finding a new hobby that is also good for you is always exciting, you want to make sure that you don’t go from 0 to 100; this will result in injuries and burnout. Here are some tips from our Chicago chiropractors.
Gradually Build Mileage
Just because your body could support you for a 5-mile run doesn’t mean that you should start off running that far. It’s important that you gradually increase the distance that you are running so that your body can build a tolerance. You will be using muscles that you aren’t used to using; overexerting these muscles will only result in an injury.
Set Small Goals
When you first start out, set small goals that you have a good chance of achieving. Don’t make lofty, unattainable goals from the start, as you will only become frustrated along the way. Start with daily or weekly goals and transform these goals into monthly or annual goals.
Join a Running Group
Running groups are an easy way to meet people who have the same interests and motivations as you. It becomes easier to stay motivated when you have a supportive group of people surrounding you.
Before you know it, you’ll be logging miles upon miles in addition to gaining a newfound passion! If you’re interested in learning more about how to avoid injuries, contact our Chicago chiropractors today.
