When you live in the Midwest, summer is short but sweet, particularly if you live in Chicago. The warm weather, combined with a slew of activities, is extremely conducive to getting in shape, or staying in shape! Taking advantage of the free or inexpensive things to do in the city is a great way to save money, and to change up your workouts. While you may want to keep your gym membership over the summer, you also may not need to!
Group Sports
Whether a volleyball league on North Avenue beach or doubles tennis, the facilities are all available throughout Chicago. If you have a smaller group, choose something like tennis, or get a large group together for any intramural league! There are also classes taught outside, such as yoga, and there are tournaments for sports like dodgeball.
Enjoying the Outdoors
Even for those that are not big nature lovers, working out in the Chicago summer is ideal. Taking a jog down Lakeshore Path is gorgeous, and you can always go to one of the many beaches. Places often have paddleboards or kayaks you can rent, both of which are great exercise. With Chicago, you can enjoy the outdoors while still seeing the skyline!
Unique Ideas
When you are at the gym, you likely have your specific machines you use, and a certain routine. With everything Chicago has to offer, you could do something different every day! Go mini-golfing one day and then step up the activity level with a rock-climbing wall at a park the next. You won’t ever get stuck in an exercise rut while living in Chicago during the summer!
