A chiropractor is often associated with back pain and holistic medicine. In addition to these things, they are extremely qualified to treat neck pain. In fact, recent studies show that chiropractic care, along with light exercises at home, can often treat neck pain better than actual pain medication. Chiropractors and neck pain just go together-like peanut butter and jelly!
Chicago Chiropractors Research
Studies that were done consisted of three groups: the medication group, a physical therapy group, and the spinal manipulation group. The physical therapy group was given regular neck exercises to complete, while the spinal manipulation group went to the chiropractor on an average of 15 times throughout a year. After tracking neck pain for over a year, the non-medication groups were still reporting less pain than the medication group.
Chiropractors Results
When looking at the reduction in pain, the group going to a chiropractor and the group doing regular neck exercises experienced a much higher level of relief than those who were simply taking pain medication. The home exercises were similar in relief than the chiropractor, but those that were doing the exercises were doing them up to eight times a day.
Further results as far as the medication group goes shows that patients continued to use the medication. They needed a higher amount of medication more frequently, which could lead to further problems down the line.
