How to Stay Active in Cold Weather

Published by Dr. Alden Clendenin

With the cold winter weather arriving in the city, all you probably want to do is pull up the covers and watch a movie. While this is understandable, it’s very important to keep up with regular exercise and visits to the chiropractor in Lincoln Park even in the winter months! Here are some good ideas for keeping yourself active in the cold.

Set a Challenge

Although it’s a good idea to stay active throughout the holidays, setting (and sticking to) a New Year’s Resolution is a great way to motivate yourself in the cold. 30-day challenges, such as planks and squats challenges that involve a gradual building of strength are also a great idea. These often require no gym equipment, and are easy and fun to do at home!

Use Workout DVDs

There is a wide variety of exercise videos out there for you to try, including yoga classes, Pilates, abs circuits, and cardio. You can easily find these online, or they make a great holiday gift idea. If you don’t enjoy packing up and heading to the gym or chiropractor in Lincoln Park, these videos are an easy way to stay in shape during the winter.

Consider the Stairs

The elevator is almost always a more enticing option, but during the winter months, if you’re not regularly exercising, opting to take the stairs can be one small way to get your heart pumping. If you have access to a safe and sturdy flight of stairs, running or walking up and down your stairs can be a high-intensity leg and cardio workout.
