May is Arthritis Awareness Month

Published by Dr. Alden Clendenin

Did you know that May is Arthritis Awareness Month? Every May comes the opportunity to bring awareness to this disease that impacts over 50 million Americans on a daily basis. In fact, arthritis is the number one cause of disability in the country, causing many people to visit our Chicago chiropractor in pain and seeking relief. These numbers are startling, but unfortunately, they will only continue to grow.

Who is Affected?

The effects of arthritis are wide-spread, as people of all ages are living with the impacts. From children to adults to the elderly, arthritis does not discriminate. Based on research that was conducted by the CDC, more adults were impacted in the rural areas of the U.S. than suburban areas, with nearly 1 in 3 adults in these areas impacted.

Get Up & Get Walking!

An activity as simple as walking can have a huge impact on those who are suffering from arthritis. May is also the perfect time to start your walking routine, as the weather is nice and the sun is shining! No matter where you live, walking is an achievable activity that is proven to help improve arthritis pain, function, fatigue and overall quality of life! You can also connect with other members of the community to get involved and create a social aspect of walking as well.

You can also incorporate muscle-strengthening moves into your routine if you are able to do so!
