Originating in China more than 3,000 years ago, acupuncture is a form of medicine that has been used to promote health and longevity by many cultures throughout history.
Acupuncture treatments are a safe, effective, drug free therapy that have been clinically proven to alleviate pain, treat and prevent disease, and restore balance and homeostasis in the body.
Today, we use sterile single use needles inserted into specific points in the body to promote health and healing in both the mind and body.
While acupuncture is best known for pain management and fertility, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a report deeming acupuncture effective in treating 31 conditions. Our newest team member, Licensed Acupuncturist, Heidi Sauhammel, specialties include (but are not limited to) stress management, chronic pain (including fibromyalgia), headaches (including migraines), sleep disorders, as well as women’s health including fertility, adrenal fatigue and hormonal balance. “The best part of Chinese medicine is that it is tailored to the individual and can not only create a sense of well-being, but also a more balanced life,” says Sauhammel.
What to Expect
Hour long acupuncture sessions incorporate a thorough intake followed by acupuncture along with cupping or tui na (Chinese acupressure massage), plus lifestyle recommendations. Acupuncture treatments are cumulative and can act as preventative medicine, maintaining well-being and increasing vitality, in turn heightening your quality of life and longevity. If you are nervous about getting acupuncture or are skeptical, feel free to reach out to Heidi with any questions or concerns.
With a Masters in Chinese Medicine, Heidi’s journey to becoming a licensed Acupuncturist and nationally certified herbalist involved three years of study including biomedicine and a Bachelors in Nutrition. Alongside coursework, Heidi fulfilled a clinical internship (1000 hours) at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine’s student clinic in both Chicago and Wisconsin serving low-income communities that sometimes had no other access to healthcare.
I went to Heidi for a treatment after having suffered with a lingering cough for weeks. The cough would wake me up and I had to sleep elevated or sometimes with a lozenge lodged in my cheek (yikes). I noticed the next day after my treatment that my cough had significantly lessened. My cough was near nonexistent within a few days. Thanks!! -M.C.
Another night with no pain last night. Remarkable. I am keeping track. -G.B.
I feel good and think the acupuncture is already helping me get regular. I finally got my period this weekend (first one since March). I really appreciate your care. -S.T.
